My Quest 2 & PCVR experience

I have been using Oculus Quest 2 for about a month now and I wanted to write about my experiences with using the software for it.

For starters, the Oculus app is not very good, I have been using it for most of time i played PCVR. Then I decided to try Windows 11 and it broke a lot of things on my computer including: graphics drivers and connectivity to the Oculus app which was used as the OpenXR runtime for my headset.

After installing Windows 11 the headset would connect, display content at about 0.5 FPS (yes, half a frame per second) and then the “buffered” packets would arrive, display accumulated inputs from the headset from the 30 seconds it would be stuck/lagged and then go back to 0.5FPS.

Now you might think: “But this doesn’t mean the Oculus app itself is bad, just Windows 11, right?”. Well, not quite.

On windows 10 I would have issues (before “upgrading” to windows 10) with gameplay through the Quest App using SteamVR, I had the same lag issues, only it was in-game and not in the first menu itself.

Either way, my issues were resolved after going back to Windows 10 and after I’ve installed steam link on my headset, this allows me to run PCVR even on my laptop with a GTX 1050-Ti with almost no stuttering @ 72hz.

On my main computer I am running 110% display resolution @ 90hz, without lag using steam link.

Have a nice day.
